Shamans Gallery is an impressive rock art site at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It’s accessed via Tuckup Trail, which is a 100 mile route that originates at Toroweap Point. To get to this amazing panel (truly, this is not only one of my favorite sites in the west, but it’s so unique in the fact that the art is so detailed and the figures are life-size) you must have 1) a good, good vehicle w/ high clearance and four wheel drive 2) Experience driving off road through unpredictable “roads” 3) Good internal GPS 4) Endurance to hike down and back up (about 7 miles-ish but the last 3 are very steep).

It’s very, very much worth the effort! For this trip, I took two of my best friends, Casey and Annie. And Mack came along, too, because he’s the best hiking dog I know. And he loves adventures 🙂
That big square boulder serves as a landmark and halfway point
Best time to go is fall or spring. There is no shade, and no water.
The hike to the panel is difficult. It’s very steep at sections and the rocks can be loose and slippy. Mack was really feeling it and I was hoping he’d make it! Nah, he’s tough. I had no doubts 🙂

It was hard to get the whole panel, but he it is (from far away)
Pics of the hike — SO beautiful!
Someone’s joke?? 🙂
I love this mutt!
This area was once under water. What you see here are fossilized sea creatures. Kinda looks like a tool chest spilled open and the screws got stuck.
i heart you, Grand Canyon!
Here are some close-ups of the amazing art that is dated to before 1000 BC. WHAT!? Crazy. Cool!
awesome colors — never seen green before!
It is a special privilege to visit these sacred sites. There is already graffiti here. Why? Why would someone deface such a special place, filled with so many mysteries? Because of this — I don’t publish directions. I don’t want anyone to stumble on my site and gain advantage to ruin these places. BUT, if you ever want to go — hit me up! And I’ll take you there. ANYTIME! 🙂
Go. Seek! Adventure!!!
